License runtime error

Post by ReisP » Wed Jan 03, 2007 12:06 pm

Hi,

I am having some problems with the licensing in the client application and I need your help, so I will describe the application and the problem.
Is a Client/Server Application:
Server
The core opens a generic dll (CreateChart), CreateChart calls teechart in order to create a report (chart)
we had some problems with the license in the server but after read your tutorial we fixed it. (Add the license to the report dll and to the server (core) and the server is running without problems… the ten files are being correctly created)

Client
Here is the problem:
The client is a framework(that we can't change, is not supported by us) that allow us to open a generic dll.
We are building a new dll(View Reports) that contains a control (chart_view_control) that will open the ten file(the file generated by the server, this file is on a specific folder on the system).
We add the licx file to the project(View Reports), the application(client) is running ok, but when I try to open a ten file into the control(chart_view_control) the application gives the following error:

I read almost of your manual and forum support, and I can't solve this problem, Can you please help me and give instructions to solve this problem, knowing that we can't add to the framework (main application (client GUI)) the license entry?

Thanks & Kind Regards,

Pedro Reis

Hello Pedro,

The application level (ie. .exe) responsible for loading the Chart should hold the TeeChart license definition (TeeChart licx file content) and have the runtime license compiled in at designtime. TeeChart should therefore be present at compile time for that project. If that is not possible to do as the framework you describe as being out of your control is that application, then physical license control is not possible for that .NET application unless it is a VC++.NET project for which the license can be retro-'bound-in' to the app.

If that is not the case please email a request to sales@steema.com for a non-physically license controlled version of the TeeChart assembly for distribution.

I am just about to launch my application and am currently experiencing the same error message.

But only when the assembly is protected as an application by .Net Reactor and run on another machine. On the other hand I can run the protected application from anywhere on the machine where teechart is installed and the programming takes place. And I can run the unprotected application together with the steema dll's on the other machine.

Any help will be appreciated.

Best regards,

Bernt R

Hello Bernt,

Have you checked with the authors of .NET Reactor to see that they support the use of referenced licensed assemblies?

We could run a trial with .NET Reactor but it would be useful to know if they expect or not to support this application setup type.

Could you please tell us what the application type (desktop, client-server, etc) you are running is as I assume it is not the same as the previous application type described in this thread.

With thanks.

Thank you for a quick response.

I am building an ordinary windows application, and .Net Reactor wraps all files into a single .exe windows file.

The documentation following .Net Reactor is scarce, but there is a window for "additional licencing information"

I will ask the guy at eziriz.

It seems like .net reactor doesn't support reading license keys as required by teechart.

Can you help me with a workaround on this?

Hello Bernt,

In this case you would need to use a version of TeeChart without license control. The version is available for circumstances where there is a technical limitation to use of the licensed version. TeeChart's licensekey is intended to protect TeeChart from development use in a runtime installation. For the non-license version that protection becomes the responsibility of the developer. By the look of .NET Reactor, it appears that it may do a fairly good job of restriciting non-authorised access to assemblies if it re-packages them all in one 'non-.NET' executable.

You may request the non-licensed version by emailing a request to sales@steema.com with reference to this conversation.

Dear Marc,

I've sent one request 15/2 and one reminder one week later. But I haven't got a response. I'll send a second reminder now. Could you please check that someone actually reads the mail?

Edit: I've been sending it to sales@steema. Was that a mistake? Will try to support@ with CC to sales@ this time.

Hi BerntR,

Have you already sent the e-mail? I've checked it with the Sales Dept. and they haven't received it so far. You may also want to try sending it to steemasales@telefonica.net.

Please let me know when you have sent the e-mail. I'll personally check it.

Thanks in advance.
